Metta School opened a new extension block to provide training facilities such as kitchens, a hotel room and a skills training room for its students. This expansion was in response to a growing demand for the school’s established vocational education. More than a mere expansion in physical capacity, it represents a brighter future for an additional 150 students with mild intellectual disabilities or mild autism spectrum disorder every year.
The ITE-accredited vocational training programme at Metta School has enabled students with special needs to graduate with qualifications and skills for successful employment. I congratulate the school for the two new ITE Skills Certification (ISC) courses in Baking Practices and Hospitality Services this year, which will offer more choices and open new career pathways for them!
